HOW TO USE Do713?

Big fan of our site? We love that for you. But are you using it as effectively as you can? Each user profile has a list of events, venues, and artists that they follow - and yours should too!

Following your favorites will ensure that you never miss out on great stuff that’s coming up.

Make sure you're taking advantage of these features when using our site! Here's a glimpse of what you'll see.


When you select the plus sign in the top right of any event you're interested in, it saves the event on your profile. Entering a Giveaway will also save the event on your profile. Use this feature to help keep track of cool, upcoming events and to also let us know what you're most excited about. 


On top of tracking interesting events, you can also follow your favorite artists and venues. Just search for them via the magnifying glass icon in top right corner, then click "Follow" on their profile. You will then get notifications whenever their events are announced. 


We're also constantly updating our feed (bell icon in the top right corner) and rotating highlights at the top and bottom of the homepage. 


WHERE OUR EVENTS COME FROM

The events on Do713 come from a number of places. We pull shows from band and venue websites and scour the internet ceaselessly looking for unique Houston events. AWESOME FACT: You, as our users, can also add events to the site yourself. Which leads us to....


HOW TO ADD AN EVENT

NOTE: As a spam-prevention measure, Do713 must grant event editing permissions to users who wish to add events. Register for the site, then send us an email at CM(at)Do713(dot)com to request event editing permissions on your account.


1. Once you have been granted editing permissions, sign in to Do713. Hover over your user icon in the upper right-hand corner, then click, "Add Event." (Please always search the site first to avoid double posting events)


2. Fill out the basic event details, making sure to include the required info, and click “Add It”. Be sure to upload a PHOTO image for your title background and a POSTER image if you have a flyer of information you would like attached. You'll also need to be sure to include a source for your image.


3. Once the page is created, click the description box under your title or poster image. Add a one-of-a-kind description of your event using our handy editing tool. Click the black “+” box and you will be able to add links, embed videos, upload images—you name it! Jazz it up however you like to make sure METRO knows what you’ve got going on.


4. Have a celebratory hot dog, you've done well!


TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR EVENT AS EFFECTIVE AS POSSIBLE

Event Titles: Do not put the date, location, or time in the title. You are already letting everyone know the when, where, and why in the other fields. Let the title stand out!


Presented By: Leave the presenter out of the title, we have a special field for that too (ex: Joe Schmoe Presents.., Big Moe Presents.., Moe's Mom Presents...) Put that lovely stuff in the "Presented by" box.


Weekly Repeating Events: Choose the "Repeat Weekly" option only if it is the exact same event on the same day every week. If there are different acts or happenings that you want to specify, it's better to make an individual event each week to make sure everyone knows what kind of awesomeness they are in for.


End Dates for Events: Do not put a different end date for an event unless it lasts multiple days.


Ticket URLs: Please avoid adding a Facebook Event link in the “Ticket URL” box: This field is for exactly what it means, a URL link to where someone can actually buy a ticket.


Artists & Performers: Type slowly in the band and venue fields and take our suggestions in the drop-down box. We have hundreds of thousands of bands, artists and venues on file, each with pages and videos connected to them, all at your disposal.


Event Description & Custom HTML: Do you think auto-editing boxes are for wimps? Are you a < > codemaster? Our description box supports basic html, so just click the </> icon in the top left of the description box on your event page and get creative with that big 'ol brain of yours.


Cover & Poster Photos: As much as we like our stock image or some of the venue logos, people would much rather see a visual representation of your event. You have two spots for images: the poster image, which will be located at the bottom of the event description, and the cover photo image, which becomes the background behind the event title section. We recommend the photo image be 1200px wide and 450px high for the best quality, and the poster be no wider than 1200px.  Please only upload JPGs or PNGs.

HOW TO EDIT AN EVENT

To preserve the integrity of our listings, our users cannot edit events unless they have added the event themselves. If you have added the event, make sure you're signed in and go to the event page and click the grey 'edit' button to the right of the title.


If you see an event that you cannot edit that needs updating (photo, info, links, cancellation, etc.) simply shoot us a quick email to [email protected]. We will be on it right away!


HOW TO EDIT YOUR PROFILE

1. Sign in to Do713.

2. Click on your user icon.

3. Under your name click “Edit Your Profile”

Pro Tip: Make sure your email is always updated. That way you'll know when you win dope stuff!


HOW EVENTS ARE RANKED

Rankings are based on the number of people recommending an event, combined with the recommendations from our Do713 “Tastemakers” (bloggers, local media and socialites.) You can make a recommendation or your "pick" for any event by clicking the “+” button on an event. The number next to the button indicates how many other users have voted on the event.


GIVEAWAYS

Giveaways for tickets and other prizes are done daily and randomly by Do713 giveaway elves. Most winners are contacted 5-7 days before the event, but that often varies depending on the size of the event, winner cancellations, and additional prize release. Giveaways are almost never closed because of this fact.


We highly recommend if you have your heart set on going to an event that you've entered to win tickets for, BUY A TICKET. If you end up winning, give your tickets to a friend. YAY FRIENDS!


You will receive an email notification no earlier than a week before the show and no later than 24 hours before the show.


Likewise, if you've won a contest via our Facebook or Twitter pages, we'll tag you in the winning post no later than 24 hours prior to the show. Please reply to the post or email confirming your attendance/telling us how awesome we are (preferably the latter). That way, we know you're coming!


Tips to Enhance Your Chances of Winning and Being an Awesome Winner:

  • Make sure the email on your account is valid so we can contact you when you win.
  • Be sure to respond to us within 24 hours to confirm your attendance.
  • Keep a full up-to-date profile with regular pics.
  • Only enter contests for events you know you can/want to attend.
  • Do not enter contests for other people. It is often difficult/impossible to change names on guest lists.
  • Again, if you REALLY want to go to the event, buy a ticket! If you end up winning, give your ticket to a friend. Maybe later on they'll help you out, like when you're moving or need to lift something heavy.
